The Marvelous Wonderettes ‘58 takes you to the 1958 rural Spring Creek High School prom, where we meet the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As we learn about their lives and loves, we are treated to the girls performing such classic ‘50s songs as “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” “Lipstick on Your Collar,” “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,” and other classic hits! You’ve never had this much fun at a prom, and you will never forget Wonderettes ‘58— a must-take musical trip down memory lane!
This is a delightful 1 hour version of the smash Off-Broadway hit! Directed by Gail Phaneuf with Music Direction by Eric Johnson, and Choreography by Katie Mebane Harvey. ![]() Jessica Banegas (Missy) is over the moon with her experience as a Marvelous Wonderette! This is her first time performing at DeerTrees Theatre. NYC credits include: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (5th Floor, NYIT Nom.); Sabor (Columbia School of the Arts); Omigod You Guys! (Triad Theatre). Graduate of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy’s Integrated Program.
Frankie Johnson (Betty Jean) is an actress and writer currently working in New York City. She wrote the book and lyrics to the musical dark comedy The Hills Are Alive! with composer Eric Thomas Johnson, which had successful runs at both the 2012 New York International Fringe Festival and the 2013 New York Musical Theatre Festival. Her Sci-fi buddy comedy pilot, Flying Blind (co-written with Sarah Morgan Ashey), was a winner of the First Ten Pages Competition and her web series Dead Space was a finalist for the 2018 Sundance/YouTube New Voices Lab. Her work has been performed at several venues around NYC, including The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre, The Peoples Improv Theater, Theatre 80, Don't Tell Mama, The Duplex, and The Tank. She also regularly writes and produces sketch videos and short films, both comedic and dramatic, independently and with Eric Thomas Johnson.
As an actress, she has been seen in various productions in regional theatre and in NYC. Credits include: The Tempest, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Hills Are Alive!, The Future Is in Eggs, Eurydice, Faith, Hope & Charity, The Complete History of America (abridged), Hay Fever, The Pirates of Penzance, among others. She also performs as a comedic improviser and sketch actress with various groups around the city, including the Boogiemanja Sketch Collective and the Magnet Theatre House Team Milwaukee. She is a recipient of a Bronx Council on the Arts (NYSCA) grant for her work as well as a member of the Dramatists Guild. She holds a degree from Vanderbilt University, where she studied music and theatre. |

Gail Phaneuf - Director is an award winning playwright, composer, producer, actor and director and the Artistic and Executive Director for the Historic Deertrees Theatre in Harrison Maine. MONSTERS! A Midlife Musical Meltdown, is a collaboration with Broadway lyricist Ernie Lijoi. MONSTERS! had its first full production at CentAstage in Boston. It was subsequently produced at the Deertrees Theatre in Harrison Maine, and was also mounted at The Regent Theatre in Arlington, MA. Games and Puzzles was produced by Image Theatre Co. for their Fem-Noire Festival and the Boston Theater Marathon. Stop Requested and her prickly Urban Gardens were produced by the South Camden Theatre Company in New Jersey. Urban Gardens was awarded best play at the Playwrights’ Platform Summer Festival. Her plays A Perfect Match and Lapse were produced at the ACME Winter New Works Festival and the Boston Theatre Marathon. Her edgy political piece Random Selection was read at the Provincetown Theatre Company's Spring Playwrights Festival and was later performed at the Boston Theater Marathon and at Curry College. Random Selection was published in Belgium in a collection of the best short plays by Boston playwrights. Her haunting work Binding the Artful Dodger had its world premiere at Curry College and most recently, Breakfast with Mary had its world premiere at the Deertrees Theatre in Maine.
Her new one woman show KIPPY, Pray for the Dead and Fight Like Hell for the Living! was performed in 2022 at Denmark Arts Center.
