ANCESTRAL VOICES: A Family Story by A.R. Gurney July 31 @ 7:30 PM ONE NIGHT ONLY - A Deertrees Theatre Fundraiser Set in Buffalo, New York in the 1940s, ANCESTRAL VOICES is a bittersweet story, perceived through the eyes of young Eddie, whose family is turned inside out when his grand-mother unexpectedly divorces his grandfather in order to marry his grandfathers best friend. Simultaneously, the outside world is undergoing temporal changes, and we follow the family through the ensuing decades of war and social upheaval. Written to be performed informally with actors reading from scripts. "This is a magical play, not a mere exercise in uncritical nostalgia, but a nuanced reminiscence full of time and change and loss and suffering as well as joy." - New York Post Sponsored by TBD July 31: www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4479759
OUTSIDE MULLINGAR by John Patrick Shanley August 6, 8, 14, 15 & August 21 @ 7:30 PM Tony Award nominee for Best Play. Written by John Patrick Shanley, the man who brought us Doubt and the script for the film Moonstruck. Outside Mullingar will be directed by Dan Burson and feature Maine-based actors Maureen Butler, Jan Gardner, Joe Bearor and Tony Reilly in the role of Tony Reilly (really, that's the characters name). It's a romantic comedy set in rural Ireland. Anthony and Rosemary are lovelorn farmers who haven't got a clue when it comes to love. These hopeless singletons will need to overcome a bitter land feud, familial rivalries and their own romantic fears to find happiness. Full of dark humor and poetic prose, John Patrick Shanley's tenderhearted portrait reminds us it's never too late to take a chance on love. Presented in collaboration with AIRE (American Irish Repertory Theatre) of Portland, Maine.
